Development of staff involved in influenza surveillance

In collaboration with NAMRU3, INRSP has organized a refresher session for the personnel involved in influenza surveillance at sentinel sites in Nouakchott (CHN CHME and Polyclinic).

The training was held at August 9, 2016 in the meeting room of the INRSP.

At opening of this session Dr. Mohamed Brahim Elkory, Director of INRSP determined the aims to improve the quality of the influenza surveillance activities through the update participants’ knowledge, regarding the definition cases, adequate procedures for sampling, and routing requirements to the reference laboratory in INRSP.

He added that these factors play an important role in the stages isolate pathogenic influenza viruses in Mauritania, which intends Reference -virus laboratory at the institute do.

By following Dr. Bara, head of the reference laboratory, made presentation about the national influenza surveillance system.Then he highlighted the strengths of this system with 100% agreement with the external quality control which deserves to congratulate all stakeholders (sentinel sites and the laboratory of the institute). He also noted the constraints faced the influenza surveillance system and ways to overcome them.

NAMRU3 experts demonstrated the best practices for influenza samples, the effects of temperature during transport of specimens on the results of PCR and molecular diagnostics.
