Training workshop on sentinel surveillance of rotavirus gastroenteritis at the referral hospitals in Nouakchott

As part of the contribution of INRSP to reduce mortality and morbidity from rotavirus gastroenteritis affecting children under 5 years, a research project was set up in partnership between INRSP/DLM/PEV/WHO/CDC. This project involves the establishment of an acute gastroenteritis surveillance system and determines  the share of rotavirus which is a serious public health problem internationally.

The sentinel sites were chosen at Nouakchott referral hospitals (CHN, CHME, HCZ and HA).
The training workshop was held at the Royal Suite Hotel in Nouakchott from 11 to 15 July 2016.

Dr. Mohamed Lemine Ould Sidi, the Director of the fight against diseases (DLM), 
started the workshop, He attended by the Director of INRSP, the expanded program
on immunization (PEV) Coordinator and WHO experts and CDC.

During the five days of training, participants who are the leaders of pediatric services at the CHN, MEWS, HCZ and HA and focal points for monitoring at the level of Nouakchott referral hospitals , were built by national experts and those of CDC Atlanta and WHO Afro for better achievement of monitoring of rotavirus gastroenteritis . Children who attended hospitals due to diarrhea will be registered , samples collected  , the data will be managed , and   analyzes to be performed at the reference  virology laboratory in  INRSP.
