A visit of a delegation of the NAMRU3 to INRSP for the preparation of a study in the field of public health

As part of the project involving INRSP and research units NAMRU3/CDC, which aims to study respiratory infections with people in connection with animals (sellers and breeders), a mission composed of three experts from two institutions led by            Mr. Gregory C. Gary, a specialist in infectious diseases and professor at Duke University (USA) who visited Mauritania from 03/05/2016 to 05/05/2016.

The program includes the delegation which finalizes the research protocol and capabilities of the different diagnostic reference laboratories in INRSP; and exchanges with national experts. Professor Gregory C. Gary hosted a presentation in the role provided by Duke University worldwide as part of the one Health approach, he raised that the project has been implemented in several countries and this is the first time a project of this kind is implanted in Mauritania, because of the efforts of           Dr. Mohamed Brahim Elkory, the Director of INRSP who aims to develop national capacity for better management of patients and especially those diseases whose causes are not known.

During the visit, the NAMRU delegation met the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health to inform him about the research objectives that will help to get answers to the questions of the majority respiratory diseases whose causes are unknown according to existing data. Pr. Gary C. Gregory added that this cooperation is interesting for both research units, and both parties tend to broaden the areas of cooperation to promote public health in Mauritania, then to contribute international efforts to support the approach of a single health (one health).
