Awareness Workshop of business and food chains on Codex Alimentarius and food safety

An awareness workshop of Codex Alimentarius and food safety was organized by the National Institute for Research in Public Health (INRSP) on 21/04/2016 in the meeting room for the benefit of business and food chains. This activity is part of the Action Plan of National Codex Committee (NCC), by INRSP; the National Focal Point.
The workshop opened with a word uttered by Dr. Mohamed Brahim Elkory, the Director of INRSP with representatives of WHO, and consumer protection associations.
The purpose of the workshop is to sensitize representatives of food chains on the role of Codex Alimentarius in the promotion of food products of all levels from regulatory standards and guidelines promoting the production of quality foods that can compete for access to international markets.

The workshop also aims to educate participants on the essential role of food safety in improving our health system through prevention of food borne diseases caused by dangerous pathogens and toxic chemicals found generally in products or preserved foods under conditions that do not meet the proper storage standards.
The use of contaminated food can cause consumers alimental poisoning danger that can vary from diarrhea, vomiting and in some cases death.

During this workshop several presentations were delivered followed by discussion by representatives of employers and those of industry and the representative of the consumer protection association.

After this workshop, several findings and recommendations were made. They aim joint efforts of different stakeholders for the promotion of food safety.
