The INRSP was created by decree N ° 18-2005 dated 27 February 2005, following a restructuring of the National Hygiene Centre (NHC). The National Hygiene Center was established in 1978. The INRSP is a public administrative and scientific vocation character having a financial management autonomy.


The INRSP supports the Health Departments, the Regional Directorates of Health Action (CBI) and Health Facilities by making its expertise and specialized laboratories available.

In addition, INRSP aims to initiate and support researches to improve the people’s health.

INRSP assigns to the following;

       I.            Conduct field researches and laboratory activity in public health, which elevate the survey and epidemiological surveillance, prevention and control of the most important public health events. Ensures health safety and quality control of drinking water and food for human consumption and contributes to the development of standards in these fields.

    II.            Promotes national and international scientific cooperation in the framework of mutual assistance undertaking.

 III.            Promotes scientific capacities to increase the knowledge in the public health field.

  1. Gathers and presents publications in the health situation, hygiene and toxicology to be available for health researchers.

   V.            Provides international vaccination service and advices to travelers.

  1. Supporting laboratory workers with training &qualification, contributing to the improvement of public health laboratories through the establishment of a quality control program, supervision and training of laboratory personnel.
  2. Develops standard measures to promote and safe'population health against chemicals.

c)     Access to over 1500 scientific journals in HINARI

Areas of expertise:

       I.            Epidemiological surveillance and technical support to the Ministry of Health.

    II.            development  of peripheral laboratories (basic and refresh training,  supervision and quality control)

 III.            National Reference Laboratory for the diagnosis and confirmation of epidemics such as cholera, meningitis, viral hemorrhagic fevers (yellow fever, Crimean Congo and Rift Valley fever , measles (,

  1. National reference laboratory of virology for HIV/AIDS and viral hemorrhagic fevers;

   V.            National reference laboratory of medical bacteriology for cholera and meningitis. National reference laboratory of Mycobacterium.

  1. ,National reference laboratory of Parasitology (malaria, schistosomiasis, Entomology)’
  2.  Quality controllaboratory of water and food.

Development of public health laboratories at national level:

INRSP supports the various reference laboratories (mycobacterial, bacteriology, virology and parasitology) by training of lab technicians, supervision and quality control for laboratories in different provinces.
